Congratulations Crickets! We have earned our third feather for the year. I am so proud of you. I love it when our classroom is a respectful and responsible place. I am asking you to blog about what you would like to do the celebrate. We will decide together tomorrow. Also, I am very please to tell you that our class has won the reading challenge! We will be served ice cream by a teacher from the 4th grade classroom next week.

We saw our first snowflakes this week and we took out our hats and mittens out of storage. I have started eating all of my favorite winter foods and am drinking lots of tea and hot chocolate. I love to snuggle up and read and watch my favorite movies when it is chilly outside! What do you like to do best when it is chilly?

Well crickets, Halloween is 7 days away! I love fall and everything that goes with it. I love apple picking, hiking in the woods and kicking the leaves, jumping in leave piles, carving pumpkins, dressing up in costumes, and yes, I love to trick or treat and eating sweets. I was wondering what your favorite Halloween tradition was. What do you look forward to doing each Halloween?

Hello Crickets! This is your first blog of first grade! I hope you are all enjoying first grade so far. We have read together, played math games together, done a science experiment together, and spent a lot of time just getting to know one another. I am asking you to blog about what you like best about first grade so far. I can't wait to read what you say!

This week we wonder wrote about what we thought teachers did all summer. Now I want to know what you plan to do this summer. What are your favorite things to do? Will you go anywhere? Any special plans? I can't wait to read about what you are looking forward to doing!

Hello Crickets! I am blogging from Manchester, New Hampshire where I am learning so much from teaching experts! It is amazing! Yes, I am using a lot of exclamation points! I am that excited! I was thinking about how lucky I am to have a job where I always get to keep learning new things. Learning new things from other people makes me happy, happy, happy. I have gotten some great ideas from these incredible teachers to use in our classroom. When I learn something new I feel smarter, happier, excited, and I can't wait to share. I am asking the Crickets to blog about how they feel when they learn something new.

March 28th is I matter you matter day! We had a wonderful speaker come in last week to talk to the students about how everyone matters and how to recognize how special they are and to remind them that they matter. We will celebrate today by letting people know that they matter. I am asking the Crickets to tell me how they might let someone know they matter.

I am still in shock over this extremely warm and unusual weather for March. Just the other day we were out back playing baseball and I realized we were all in shorts and t-shirts and it was only March 18th! Playing outside in this beautiful weather has made my body crave it's favorite summer foods. This weekend I craved hamburgers on the grill with a fresh green salad. I am wondering if the crickets have started to think about their favorite summer foods or drinks and what they would eat on a beautiful weekend day.

I cannot believe the beautiful weather we have had over the past few days! It feels, and smells, and sounds, like spring is here! I have seen many signs of spring on my way to and from school. I am going to ask the crickets what signs of spring they have seen and if they think it is here to stay.

I hope you all had a wonderful time away from school. I hope you were able to spend some time doing fun things with your family. I was able to see the ocean in Maine in the winter and our family visited the Jay Peak indoor water park. I could not beleive how many people were there swimming and skiing. It was a very active place! Tell me about something you did over vacation that made you happy. I missed you! Welcome back!

Today we talked a lot about making sure that we think about what we are going to say before we say it. Sometimes we say things to others that hurt their feelings and once those words have been spoken there is no way to take them back. We can always apologize, but those words have been put out there. Sometimes we put our "garbage" onto other people. We have talked about how to "brush of the garbage" and move on. We also read a book called Fill A Bucket. By saying nice things, doing kind things, or showing we care we can fill other people's buckets with good feelings as well as our own. I am asking the crickets what are some things they could do to fill a friend's bucket?

This week has been full of interesting winter weather. As January creeps by I am thinking about how much these first graders have grown and how much they have learned. They are all very excited active learners and I am very proud to have them in my classroom. I am hoping that they too are proud of themselves, so I am asking the crickets to blog about what accomplishments or skills they are proud of.

The past week has been filled with science. We have been talking about how everything in the world is made up of matter. We have also learned about three states of matter: liquids, solids, and gasses. We have done many experiments with gasses which we all have enjoyed! This week our wordle of the week was all about liquids. Liquids can be poured, and take on the shape of the container they are in. I am asking my crickets to blog about their favorite liquids and why they are their favorite!

Welcome to a brand new year! I am so happy to be back at school after a very busy break. The Crickets have come back to school with lots to tell me about their vacation. We have started to talk about WOW words during writers workshop and have begun making our specialist books. It is so nice to see all of the Crickets hard at work. I am asking the Crickets to blog about what they did over the holiday break.
